722 - Articulated
Dump Trucks |

 |
The 22 US Ton
(20 metric tonnes) capacity 722 is the latest addition to the
JCB range of ADT’s. Previewed at Intermat in 2003, the 722 will
be officially launched at Bauma towards the end of March 2004.
With more power and its ability to carry more payload than its
lighter family members, the 722 still retains all key features
that are expected of this size machine. With the infamous JCB
patented front suspension, similar to that used on the 718, the
722 is also an extremely comfortable ride whether laden or not,
ensuring all-year-round operation. Its the perfect machine for
rental companies, contractors, house builders, landfill sites,
quarries, sandpits, forestry and many more.

ENGINE
- The 722 is driven by a 5.9 litre engine
producing 240gross horsepower at 2400rpm.
- This powerful engine allows the 722 to achieve
top speeds of approximately 50kph (31.07mph).
- The engine itself features low noise levels,
improved efficiency and boasts high performance
ensuring low operating costs while complying fully
with European and North American off-highway
emissions regulations.
- A Bosch in-line pump provides optimum low speed
torque and reduced smoke by precisely matching
fuel/air mixture across the operational speed.
- An additional Wastegate Turbocharger provides
higher cylinder injection pressures, resulting in
cleaner combustion.

TRANSMISSION
- Consistent with JCB’s line of wheel loaders the
ADT’s feature a ZF Smooth-shift transmission that
provides "best in industry" performance with smooth
gear changes which help reduce operator fatigue.
- The transmission provides 6 speed forward and 3
reverse gears with a choice of either automatic or
manual operation interchangeable on route. Constant
6 wheel drive, with longitudinal lock up available
on both axle and transmission at the touch of a
button.
- Super Max Trac limited slip differentials are
fitted as standard for automatically engaging
optimum traction system in even the softest
conditions with no operator engagment required.
- To compliment the power provided by the engine
and transmission, the 722 boasts a cast center
articulation design with 360-degree oscillation,
ensuring the cab always remains vertical.
- Power assisted dual-braking system is used, with
single caliper actuation per disc for safe and
effective retardation. The calipers themselves are
positioned in such a way so as to maximise their
protection.

CAB
- The spacious operator’s cab is centre-mounted on
the front frame of the machine so as to increase all
round visibility and stability. Visibility is
further improved with the new and stylish sloping
bonnet design.
- The cab itself is Roll Over Protective Structure
(ROPS) and Falling Object Protective Structure
(FOPS) approved for operator safety in all job site
conditions.
- The cab features large windows for all-around
360 degrees visibility. Air suspension seat, seat
belt, extra training seat, tilt steering and air
conditioning are all fitted as standard with a
variety of options available to suit individual
needs.
- The cab itself is isolated from the chassis by
using four flexible mountings minimising noise and
vibration which in return reduces operator fatigue
during long shifts making the machine all the more
comfortable.
- The cab is electro-coated passing through a
total of 17 treatments before undergoing powder
coating which gives a unique hard, resilient finish
promoting long term reliability and durability.

CONTROLS
- All switches, including body tip lever, gear
selection, direction indicators, windscreen wipers
and heater controls are within easy reach of the
operator and easy to use. The cab also features a
12v electrical socket.
- The JCB Electronic Monitoring System (EMS)
similar to that used on the wheel loaders, monitors
all vital functions and communicates information
easily to the operator. In the event of a system
failure, EMS shuts the machine down, protecting both
the operator and the machine.
- An additional logging facility enables
functional performance to be registered for a
comprehensive service record.
- EMS also has added safety benefits, allowing
only first gear to be selected when the body of the
machine is in the raised position. Once the body is
lowered and reaches a safe height, all gears can
once again be selected.
- The 722 also features a suspension system which
the EMS controls to ensure that the same ride height
is maintained whether the machine is laden or
unladen. As well as the front suspension on the
forward axle, the 722 incorporates rear ’’bogie
beam’’ suspension on both the intermediate and real
axle.

HYDRAULICS AND
BODYWORK
- The 722 uses a simple twin gear pump design
providing an effective hydraulic system that is
uncomplicated yet economical. The main pump powers
the steering and body tip, while the second pump
powers both the braking system and suspension.
- The hydraulic tank is situated on the front of
the machine on the right hand side, with the filler
located on the top of the tank for easy access along
with an inspection cover for easy strainer renewal
and cleaning. The tank is blended into the
surrounding bodywork and so does not compromise the
machine’s appearance. Its position also maintains a
low centre of gravity aiding both stability and
tractive performance.
- The rear chassis of the 722 Articulated Dump
Truck is made from high tensile strength steel and
has large box section reinforcements for rigidity
and resistance to loading forces. Dumping is
achieved via dual acting single-stage dump cylinders
that are mounted on the outside of the body.
- The body of the 722 is low and wide, providing a
low center of gravity. This translates into a lower
load over height and a wider target for excavator or
loader operators. The rear of the body has a
25-degree scow to retain material on steep haul
roads. The improved 74-degree tip angle insures fast
and complete material discharge even when dumping on
an incline. With a 12 m³ capacity, the 722 achieves
a dumping time of 13.0 seconds, and an 11 second
lowering time for quick cycles to increase
productivity on the job.
